The Wardandi people are the coastal people and have strong links to this area. With respect to the current Wardandi people and ancestors of the past we thank them for accepting us. Today with mutual respect and understanding, we acknowledge the past and its differences and now look forward to working together to build strong relations.

Primary School

Primary School at Bunbury Cathedral Grammar School nurtures both minds and hearts. From Pre-Primary to Year 6, children are encouraged to be curious, think deeply, act with purpose and develop the confidence to grow into capable, resilient learners.

Curriculum Overview / Year Groups

A time for wonder, connection and strong foundations!

Pre Primary to Year 2

A time for wonder, connection and strong foundations!

The early years of Primary School are a time of curiosity, play and rapid growth. Learning environments are thoughtfully designed to inspire discovery and creativity, while strong relationships provide children with a sense of safety and belonging.

Explicit teaching builds strong foundations in literacy, numeracy and thinking skills, while guided play and inquiry allow children to explore ideas, develop problem-solving skills and grow in confidence. Learning is grounded in connection - to each other, to community and to the natural environment of our Wardandi Country.

Pre-Primary to Year 2

Years 3 to 6

A time for challenge, independence and deeper thinking

Upper Primary builds on the foundations of the early years, supporting students to see themselves as capable, responsible learners. Learning balances explicit teaching with inquiry, collaboration and hands-on experiences that encourage curiosity, creativity and critical thinking.

Students are challenged to make connections across learning areas, apply their understanding in meaningful contexts and take increasing ownership of their learning. A strong focus on relationships, community and wellbeing supports students to grow academically, socially and emotionally as they prepare for Secondary School.

Inclusive Learning and Support (NCCD)

At Bunbury Cathedral Grammar School, we are committed to inclusive education and ensuring all students can access learning on the same basis as their peers.
The Nationally Consistent Collection of Data (NCCD) is a national process undertaken by all Australian schools each year.

It records the number of students receiving reasonable adjustments the supports and changes teachers make to help them participate fully in learning
Information collected is de-identified and used to better understand student needs, inform planning and strengthen inclusive practice across Australian schools. Families are consulted as part of the process, and privacy is carefully protected.
If you would like to discuss adjustments for your child or how the NCCD works at Bunbury Cathedral Grammar School, our teachers and Student Support team are always happy to help.

How we support learning and development for this age group

Simple card

Strong Foundations

We teach the Western Australian Curriculum through clear, explicit instruction. Key knowledge and skills are taught systematically and purposefully, helping students build confidence, mastery and understanding.

Learning That Grows

In the early years, explicit teaching is complemented by intentional play. As students move into Upper Primary, learning becomes increasingly inquiry-driven, encouraging independence, critical thinking and deeper connections across learning areas.

Support and Challenge

Student progress is closely monitored so learning can be extended, enriched or supported at the right time. Differentiated teaching, targeted intervention and extension programs ensure every child is both supported and challenged at their point of need.
